New Online Video Game Nears Top of Sales Charts for Holiday Season.
SuperGenius, a downtown Oregon City video game studio located at 818 Main Street, announced today their new online video game Forge, a multiplayer game for the PC is the #2 best selling video game in the world accounting for first day sales. Forge was co-developed with Southern California startup game developer, Dark Vale Games and New Zealand programming house, Digital Confectioners.
SuperGenius employed over 40 local video game artists, animators, and creative professionals on Forge. SuperGenius Studio Director and Owner, Paul Culp, expects this game to be a long term project for his creative firm as the game evolves.
Forge is a multiplayer PC game that takes the player vs. player design sensibility from popular first person shooters like Call of Duty and Team Fortress, but utilizes a third person camera and is set it in an elaborate fantasy world instead of a military-centric one. Players take control of one of five classes of characters with their own unique powers and abilities as well as pair up with supernatural and animal companions like Dire Wolves and Fire Elementals. Forge takes a new approach to the genre by removing the need to build a video gam character’s abilities over time, which can be frustrating for new players who haven’t been putting hours into the game to make their character more powerful. Instead, everyone has an equal opportunity to focus on their skills instead of “buying” extra power with purchases or time.
“This is a great opportunity for the Portland area and Oregon City, in particular, to celebrate the creative industries we have been fostering behind the scenes for quite some time,” says Culp Studio Director and Owner of SuperGenius. “We are able to attract and maintain exceptional local talent from the local area.”
Last year, SuperGenius spun off from parent company Funnelbox Production Studios into an independent animation studio. Studio Director and Owner Paul Culp was recognized by the State of Oregon as a “Business Success Story of the Year” for this entrepreneurial approach.
“Paul Culp and his team at SuperGenius, exemplify the creative spirit found in downtown Oregon City,” said MSOC Inc. Director Lloyd Purdy. “Downtown Oregon City has a growing mix of restaurants, shops and creative professionals that make this downtown a unique place to work and visit.”
SuperGenius is in a downtown Oregon City based video game art and animation studio best known – previously – for their recent work on The Walking Dead video game which received rave reviews from top game critics and sold over a million copies within the first two weeks of release.
